Doctor of the Day

As Chairman of the Committee on Legislative and Governmental Affairs of the Arizona Medical Association, I am writing to you about a unique opportunity to have a bird's eye view of the Second Regular Session of the 49th Arizona State Legislature and to share your views with those who make our laws. The Arizona Medical Association has a reputation for having a strong, effective legislative program; your active participation in the Physician of the Day Program enhances this effort.

Please review the enclosed registration form and consider setting aside one morning (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) January through April to volunteer as the "Physician of the Day"; at the Arizona State Legislature. Carol Wagner, Associate Vice President of Operations, will contact your office to schedule your visit in accordance with the information you provide.

On your assigned day, Carol will brief you on the current status of legislation; accompany you to committee hearings, caucus and floor action in both houses; and arrange visits with your individual Senator and Representatives. You are welcome to bring a resident, a family member or other guest when you serve as Physician of the Day. Many participants have done this and have found it to be interesting and educational.

In past years, physicians from all over Arizona have participated in this program. Last year, physicians from 26 of the 30 legislative districts, practicing in 25 different specialties participated. We encourage you to join us in the upcoming legislative session - whether you have done this before or are a "first timer." Just complete the lower section of the registration form and return it in ArMA or fax it to 602 242-6283. The Arizona Medical Association's Legislative Program continues to grow. We hope you will help in this effort by participating as the "Physician of the Day".
