Attention Medicare Providers: Congress Reaches Deal to Delay Medicare Payment Cut
Physicians got a brief reprieve from a 27 percent Medicare pay cut today when the U.S. House of Representatives reached agreement with the Senate on a two-month extension of important policies that expire on January 1. In the meantime, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extended the 2012 Annual Participation Enrollment Period through February 14, 2012. The original deadline was December 31. The effective date for any participation status change during the extension, however, remains January 1, 2012, and will be in force for the entire year. Contractors will accept and process any participation elections or withdrawals made during the extended enrollment period that are post-marked on or before February 14, 2012.
