Bruce A. Bethancourt Jr., MD AMA Delegate
Dr. Bruce Bethancourt received his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, and has been in practice in Phoenix since 1984. He is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Banner Medical Group. Dr. Bethancourt is a member of the Arizona Medical Association (ArMA), Maricopa County Medical Society (MCMS), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American College of Physicians (ACP). A member since 1984, Dr. Bethancourt served as President of the Arizona Medical Association from June 2003 until June 2004. An advocate for patient safety, Dr. Bethancourt now serves as President of the Arizona Partnership Implementing Patient Safety (APIPS), a 501c3 dedicated to promoting patient health and safety in Arizona. APIPS began as a project initiated by Dr. Bethancourt during his term as ArMA President. Dr. Bethancourt will serve as AMA Delegate until December 2013.

Robert Bina will serve on the Board of Directors as the medical student representative for one year. He is attending University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix Campus and will graduate in 2013.

 

 

Henri R. Carter, MD Rural Director
Henri Carter, MD will serve as a Rural Director until June 2014. He served as President from June 2008 - June 2009. Dr. Carter graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at the University of Louisville. Dr. Carter's specialty is general/vascular surgery, and he is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Carter has had a private practice in Yuma since 1988. He is an active staff surgeon, and currently the vice-chairman of the department of surgery at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He is a member of the Yuma County Medical Society, the American Society of General Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Jacqueline A. Chadwick, MD At Large Member of Executive Committee
Jacqueline Chadwick, MD graduated with a degree in zoology from Arizona State University, received her MD from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and completed her residency at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chadwick has been practicing in Scottsdale since 1978. In 1992 she became the first woman president of the Arizona Medical Association. Also in 1992, Dr. Chadwick was appointed Associate Dean for Phoenix Programs for the University of Arizona College of Medicine to act as a liaison between the College of Medicine and the Phoenix community. She is now the vice dean of academic affairs for the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix. Currently, she is a member of the Maricopa County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and both the Arizona and American Academies of Family Physicians.

Gary Christensen, MD is an anesthesiologist at Flagstaff Medical Center. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Virginia. Dr. Christensen is currently a member of the Coconino County Medical Society, the Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He will serve as a Rural Director until June 2014.

Leonard Ditmanson, MD AMA Alternate Delegate
Leonard Ditmanson, MD was President from June 2005 to June 2006. He graduated from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, and completed his residency in internal medicine in Tucson. Dr. Ditmanson has been a member of the Arizona Medical Association since 1997, and on the Pima County Medical Society Board of Directors since January 2001. Dr. Ditmanson is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics.

Ronnie Dowling, MD will serve as an AMA Delegate and the Delegation Chair until December 2012. Dr. Dowling graduated from the University of Colorado Medical Center, where she also interned and completed her residency in orthopaedics. She has practiced in Show Low since 1982. An ArMA member since 1983, Dr. Dowling is also a member of the Apache County Medical Society, the Arizona Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Association, the Association of Women Surgeons, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Women's Association and the Western Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Dowling served as ArMA's president in 2001-2002.

Philip E. Keen, MD, served as ArMA’s President 2004-2005 and currently serves as At-Large Director on the ArMA Board of Directors and the AzMedicine Advisory Council. Dr. Keen is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology. He has practiced as chief of pathology in Prescott for 17 years, in addition to 29 years as chief medical examiner for Yavapai County, and 14 years as chief medical examiner for Maricopa County. Dr. Keen is currently the medical director for tissues services for Donor Network.

Marilyn Laughead, MD holds the position of Speaker/Parliamentarian until 2012. Dr. Laughead is a past president of ArMA, and has served on numerous committees. Ana Maria Lopez, MD will serve as an At-Large Director until June 2012. Dr. Lopez is the Associate Dean of the Office of Outreach and Multicultural and Multicultural Affairs in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. She is professor of medicine and pathology, and medical director of the Arizona telemedicine Program. She is currently the Governor of the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. López is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College (A.B. Philosophy) and Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University (M.D.). Dr. Lopez has been an ArMA member since 1996.
