Bruce A. Bethancourt Jr., MD AMA Delegate
Dr. Bruce Bethancourt received his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, and has been in practice in Phoenix since 1984. He is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Banner Medical Group. Dr. Bethancourt is a member of the Arizona Medical Association (ArMA), Maricopa County Medical Society (MCMS), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American College of Physicians (ACP). A member since 1984, Dr. Bethancourt served as President of the Arizona Medical Association from June 2003 until June 2004. An advocate for patient safety, Dr. Bethancourt now serves as President of the Arizona Partnership Implementing Patient Safety (APIPS), a 501c3 dedicated to promoting patient health and safety in Arizona. APIPS began as a project initiated by Dr. Bethancourt during his term as ArMA President. Dr. Bethancourt will serve as AMA Delegate until December 2013.

Robert W. Bina, Medical Student Member
Robert Bina will serve on the Board of Directors as the medical student representative for one year. He is attending University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix Campus and will graduate in 2013.

Henri R. Carter, MD Rural Director
Henri Carter, MD will serve as a Rural Director until June 2014. He served as President from June 2008 - June 2009. Dr. Carter graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at the University of Louisville. Dr. Carter's specialty is general/vascular surgery, and he is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Carter has had a private practice in Yuma since 1988. He is an active staff surgeon, and currently the vice-chairman of the department of surgery at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He is a member of the Yuma County Medical Society, the American Society of General Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Jacqueline A. Chadwick, MD At Large Member of Executive Committee
Jacqueline Chadwick, MD graduated with a degree in zoology from Arizona State University, received her MD from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and completed her residency at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chadwick has been practicing in Scottsdale since 1978. In 1992 she became the first woman president of the Arizona Medical Association. Also in 1992, Dr. Chadwick was appointed Associate Dean for Phoenix Programs for the University of Arizona College of Medicine to act as a liaison between the College of Medicine and the Phoenix community. She is now the vice dean of academic affairs for the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix. Currently, she is a member of the Maricopa County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and both the Arizona and American Academies of Family Physicians.

Gary S. Christensen, MD Rural Director
Gary Christensen, MD is an anesthesiologist at Flagstaff Medical Center. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Virginia. Dr. Christensen is currently a member of the Coconino County Medical Society, the Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He will serve as a Rural Director until June 2014.

Leonard Ditmanson, MD AMA Alternate Delegate
Leonard Ditmanson, MD was President from June 2005 to June 2006. He graduated from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, and completed his residency in internal medicine in Tucson. Dr. Ditmanson has been a member of the Arizona Medical Association since 1997, and on the Pima County Medical Society Board of Directors since January 2001. Dr. Ditmanson is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics.

Ronnie K. Dowling, MD AMA Delegation Chair
Ronnie Dowling, MD will serve as an AMA Delegate and the Delegation Chair until December 2012. Dr. Dowling graduated from the University of Colorado Medical Center, where she also interned and completed her residency in orthopaedics. She has practiced in Show Low since 1982. An ArMA member since 1983, Dr. Dowling is also a member of the Apache County Medical Society, the Arizona Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Association, the Association of Women Surgeons, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Women's Association and the Western Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Dowling served as ArMA's president in 2001-2002.

Timothy C. Fagan, MD, Pima Director
Timothy Fagan, MD specializes in chemical pharmacology and interal medicine; he practices in Tucson. Dr. Fagan graduated from the University of California School of Medicine, Los Angeles in 1973. He has been a member of ArMA since 2003. Dr. Fagan will serve as a Pima Director until June 2013.

R. Screven Farmer III, MD Pima Director
R. Screven Farmer III, MD has been a member of the Arizona Medical Association for almost 20 years. He was President from June 2007 until June 2008. Dr. Farmer graduated from Emory University, and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Farmer is a member of the Pima County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Farmer will server as Pima Director until June 2013.

Howard B. Fleishon, MD Maricopa Director
Howard B. Fleishon, MD will serve as Maricopa Director until June 2013. Dr. Fleishon specializes in diagnostic radiology, and received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia in 1982. He has been an ArMA member since 1987.

Stuart D. Flynn, MD Dean, University of Arizona College of Medicine
Stuart Flynn, MD serves on ArMA's Board as the Dean, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix Campus. Dr. Flynn attended the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor graduating in 1979 and his specialty is pathology.

Arturo Gonzalez, MD, At-Large Director
Arturo Gonzalez, MD will serve as an At-Large Director until 2012. He earned his medical degree at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center/New York University Medical program where he was chief resident. Dr. Gonzalez is a pediatrician practicing in Scottsdale and is active in the Arizona chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics (AzAAP). He has been an ArMA member since 1993.

Michael F. Hamant, MD Secretary
Michael Hamant, MD will serve as Secretary until June 2012. Dr. Hamant is a family practice and sports medicine physician practicing in Tucson. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine in 1983. He has been an ArMA member since 1998.

Thomas H. Hicks II, MD AMA Alternate Delegate
Thomas Hicks II, MD graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his residency in urology at University Medical Center. Dr. Hicks has been practicing in Tucson since 1976. He is a member of the Pima County Medical Society, serving as its president in 1992. He is also a member of the Arizona Urologic Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the American Urologic Association. Dr. Hicks will serve as an AMA Alternate Delegate until December 2012.

Nusrum Iqbal, MD Rural Director
Nusrum Iqbal, MD is a Internal Medicine specialist practicing in Sierra Vista. He graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College, University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan in 1996. Dr. Iqbal has been an ArMA member since 2004. He will serve as Rural Director until June 2013.

M. Zuhdi Jasser, MD AMA Alternate Delegate
M. Zuhdi Jasser, MD served as President from June 2006 until June 2007 and is currently serving as an alternate delegate to the AMA. Dr. Jasser is an internal medicine physician, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1992. He has been an ArMA member since 2000. Dr. Jasser will serve as an AMA Alternate Delegate until December 2013.

Nadeem A. Kazi, MD will serve as Rural Director until June 2014. He has been an ArMA member since 2000. Dr. Kazi graduated from Sind Medical College, University of Karchi in Pakistan in 1986. His specialty is gastroenterology and he practices in Casa Grande.

Philip E. Keen, MD At-Large Director
Philip E. Keen, MD, served as ArMA’s President 2004-2005 and currently serves as At-Large Director on the ArMA Board of Directors and the AzMedicine Advisory Council. Dr. Keen is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology. He has practiced as chief of pathology in Prescott for 17 years, in addition to 29 years as chief medical examiner for Yavapai County, and 14 years as chief medical examiner for Maricopa County. Dr. Keen is currently the medical director for tissues services for Donor Network.

Marilyn K. Laughead, MD Speaker/Parliamentarian
Marilyn Laughead, MD holds the position of Speaker/Parliamentarian until 2012. Dr. Laughead is a past president of ArMA, and has served on numerous committees. She graduated from the University of Arizona, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Laughead is a past president of the Phoenix Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, and a member of the Maricopa County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists.

Ana Maria Lopez, MD, MPH, FACP At-Large Director
Ana Maria Lopez, MD will serve as an At-Large Director until June 2012. Dr. Lopez is the Associate Dean of the Office of Outreach and Multicultural and Multicultural Affairs in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. She is professor of medicine and pathology, and medical director of the Arizona telemedicine Program. She is currently the Governor of the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. López is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College (A.B. Philosophy) and Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University (M.D.). Dr. Lopez has been an ArMA member since 1996.

Jeff T. Mueller, MD AMA Alternate Delegate & At-Large Member of the Executive Committee
Jeff T. Mueller, MD will serve as an AMA Alternate Delegate until December 2012. Dr. Mueller is an anesthesiologist practicing in Phoenix. B. Shields Stutts, III, MD will serve as a rural director until June 2014. Dr. Stutts graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1969. He is a Cardiologist practicing in Prescott and has been an ArMA member since 2009.

Ramesh Tandon, MD Rural Director
Ramesh Tandon, MD will serve as a Rural Director until June 2012. Dr. Tandon is a general surgeon practicing in Kingman. He graduated from Darbhanga Medical College at Mithila University, in Laheriasarai in 1968. Dr. Tandon has been an ArMA member since 2006.

William J. Thrift, MD President-Elect and Vice Speaker
William Thrift graduated with his medical degree from the University of Arizona, and completed his residency in family practice at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. He has been a member of ArMA since 1983, is a past president of the Yavapai County Medical Society, a past vice president of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians and is a member of the American Medical Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Thrift will serve as President-Elect until June 2012 when he will become president. He will also serve as vice speaker until 2013.

Robert O. Wilson, MD At-Large Director
Robert Wilson, MD graduated from the University of Utah Medical School. Since 1979 Dr. Wilson has been practicing in Peoria, Sun City and Sun City West. He has been on the Board of Directors since 1992. Dr. Wilson is currently a member of the Arizona Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Medical Equestrian Association. Dr. Wilson has been an At-Large director since 1992 and will serve until 2011.
