House of Delegates
The Arizona Medical Association House of Delegates constitutes the voting body of the association and is composed of representatives from county medical societies, direct members, and specialty and subspecialty societies. The House meets at least once a year at the annual meeting, but special meetings may be held at any time, with appropriate notice, at the call of the board, or upon the call of 20 delegates with delegate representation from at least three county societies. The House elects all officers and directors of the association. The House votes on all memorials and resolutions presented to it; instructs the board on its wishes respecting the operations of the association; when necessary, amends the articles and bylaws; and holds all powers and duties not otherwise specifically delegated.

Board of Directors
The board has the control and management of the affairs of the association, subject only to directives from the house, and has the full power and authority of the house between meetings of the house. The board attempts to carry out all of the objectives and purposes of the association except as may be otherwise provided in the articles of incorporation or bylaws.

Executive Committee
This committee consists of the physician officers. The functions of the committee are (1) review and summarize routine matters and correspondence for board action; (2) develop policy positions and alternatives for consideration and decision by the board; (3) develop affirmative plans for the association to consider and be acted upon by the board; (4) act as an advisor to the executive vice president and conduct annual review of his/her performance and make adjustments to compensation as deemed appropriate; and (5) study and make recommendations concerning long range and strategic objectives for the association . The committee shall conduct this planning process at least every two years, inviting additional members of the association to participate.

Committees

The Arizona Medical Association (ArMA) offers opportunities for members to be involved in committees focusing on various aspects of physician issues in community and policy, as well as those dedicated to ArMA business. Committee assignments are made annually by each incoming ArMA President. For further information or to indicate your interest in serving on any one committee, please contact the staff member listed.

Accreditation and Medical Education
Committee Chair: Charles Daschbach, MD
The ArMA Committee on Accreditation and Medical Education (ArMA CME Committee), through recognition of the ACCME, serves as the official accreditation body for Arizona organizations to provide quality continuing medical education for physicians and various healthcare professionals. The primary goal of the Committee is to foster quality continuing medical education programs that demonstrate physician competence, performance or patient outcomes. This Committee is comprised of representatives from CME providers in Arizona as well as members of ArMA’s current leadership. This is a working Committee that requires active participation from all of its members. The Committee meets four times annually.

ArMPAC
Committee Chair: Robert O. Wilson, MD
The Arizona Medical Association Political Action Committee (ArMPAC) Board of Directors provides financial support to candidates for statewide offices who generally support the goals and objectives of ArMA and advises the American Medical Political Action Committee (AMPAC) on financial support of candidates to Arizona's congressional delegation.

Articles and Bylaws
Committee Chair: Marilyn K. Laughead, MD
The ArMA Articles & Bylaws Committee is dedicated to keeping ArMA’s structure orderly and up-to-date. This Committee meets on an “as needed basis” in order to respond to ArMA’s evolving role and needs. Committee members should have a solid understanding of ArMA’s structure and have generally served in a leadership role on the ArMA Executive Committee or Board of Directors. All members of this committee will have been members of the association at least five years prior to their appointment.

Bioethics
Committee Chair: J. Michael Powers, MD
The functions of this committee are to (1) develop and implement bioethical educational programs to the benefit of the public, the community of health care providers, and the profession; (2) review association policies and positions of other organizations with respect to their bioethical considerations; (3) selectively accept requests for bioethical reviews; (4) coordinate bioethical research among Arizona's physicians; and (5) respond to committee assignments and referrals from the house of delegates.

Finance
Committee Chair: Daniel R. Marino, MD
The Committee on Finance meets annually to review ArMA's budget for presentation at the Executive Committee and final approval at ArMA's Board of Directors. The treasurer serves as the chair of the ArMA Committee on Finance. The committee acts in an advisory capacity in budgetary and financial matters and new committee members should have financial background and a familiarity and interest in ArMA's financial matters.

Legislative and Governmental Affairs
Committee Chair: Jacqueline A. Chadwick, MD
The ArMA Legislative Committee consists of approximately 33-35 members who are appointed to the committee by ArMA's president. In general, the committee meets twice a year to review issues that are under consideration by state or federal agencies, licensing boards, the legislature, or congress. The committee examines issues of concern to physicians, health care organizations and patients, and is responsible for establishing the positions that ArMA takes in negotiating or advocating on those particular issues. It is common for the Legislative Committee to review between 250 and 350 pieces of legislation each year, in addition to reviewing other rules and regulations affecting the field of medicine.

Maternal and Child Health Care
Committee Chair: Harold Magalnick, MD
The ArMA Maternal and Child Health Care (MCHC) Committee meets three times annually at ArMA Headquarters. Comprised of physicians and health care professionals, this committee discusses medical issues related to women and children's health in our state. The committee is intended to be the arena in which ArMA's maternal and child health professionals have the opportunity to champion issues that need attention and evoke positive changes for physicians and their patients. Additionally, the Committee serves as a forum and meeting point for state entities such as AHCCCS, ASIIS, and various offices at ADHS.

Public Health Committee
Committee Chair: Michael Grossman, MD
The ArMA Public Health Committee three times annually at ArMA Headquarters. Consisting of approximately 20 physicians and professionals, this committee discusses medical issues related to public health in our state. Recent discussion topics have included disaster preparedness, influenza, and reporting communicable diseases, among others. The committee is intended to be the arena in which ArMA's public health professionals have the opportunity to champion issues that need attention and evoke positive changes for Arizona's citizens.
